Having great SEO will separate the men from the boys. It’s all well and good you have a nice design and a fully functionality website but if you don’t have great SEO or it is non existant then you won’t be found by anyone. Here are my Top 10 SEO tips which you should implement on your website today.
1. Page Titles
When you Google your own website (if indexed) you will notice your page title, along with a description of your page. Your titles tell Google and other search engines what your page is about. My own website has a page title: Digital Burst Media | Web Design Services in Bodmin, Cornwall. This is a well-optimised tag as you have your company, services you’re offering as well as a location. They need to be as descriptive as possible but between 50 – 60 characters.
2. META Descriptions
Your META descriptions is the descriptions underneath the title when you Google your website. Again these descriptions should be as descriptive as possible and be within the 300 character limit. Make sure you use related keywords in your META descriptions to get the most potential.
3. ALT Tags
When you use images on your website it’s best practice to insert ALT tags for your images. These tags should describe the images you’re posting. Visitors won’t see these on the posts or pages they are viewing but Google and other search engines will.
4. Mobile Responsive Website
This is the number one ranking factor according to many industry experts and for good reason. Your website must be mobile friendly on all devices including tablets. More than 80% of us has a mobile phone and internet usage is dominated by mobile users.
5. Image Optimisations
Page speed is another ranking factor in Google, therefore all your images need to be reduced in size. Do you have full-sized images on your website or blog and your browser is reducing them automatically? There’s no need for it and it’s just a waste of space on the hosting server and also takes longer to load your page. Not only do you need to reduce the sizes of your images but you can compress them as well which can also save time loading.
6. NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number)
It’s very important for every website that the name, address & phone number are on the website. This tells Google you have a registered business address and will therefore be more trustworthy in their eyes.
7. Pages have at least 500 words
Google likes to index pages which have great content. It’s recommended to have at least 500 words per page which are highly descriptive. Your pages will therefore have more chance to be shared on Social Media and thus more likely to have a link back to your blog.
8. Keyword Research
Do some great keyword research to help find less competitive keywords. By using less competitive keywords you’re more likely to be found higher up in the search engine results. Focus on the less competitive keywords at first, then when your website gets more popular try and up the game and use more lucrative keywords.
9. Use Videos
Videos are getting more popular. A ranking factor for Google is engagement and by having more videos, your visitors like to press on things which therefore keeps your visitors on your site for longer and reduces bounce rate.
10. Keep adding more content
Keeping your site relevant and up to date is one sure fire to keep in the limelight. It’s true what they say ‘Content Is King’. If you have a website try to keep adding new images to your gallery. If you have a blog, keep adding new posts on a regular basis.
